Custom fabrication
Welded Steel Balustrades & Railings, Made to Measure
When a balustrade has to follow a staircase, wrap a mezzanine or finish a roof terrace with a clean welded look, we fabricate it to your measurements. Choose vertical bars, flat bars, mesh or glass infill and any RAL colour, or hot-dip galvanised steel for hard-wearing outdoor use.

Where our balustrades go
Each run is drawn to fit, including rakes, returns, curves and changes of level, so it arrives ready to fix.
-
Stairs & landings
Raking balustrades with continuous handrails for internal and external stairs, in homes, offices, schools and apartment blocks.
-
Mezzanines & galleries
Edge protection for mezzanine floors, galleries and voids, with kick plates or mesh where items could fall through.
-
Roof terraces & flat roofs
Parapet-mounted, face-fixed or freestanding balustrades for roof terraces, sized for the higher guarding needed at roof edges.
-
Ramps & external steps
Continuous handrails and balustrades for ramped approaches and steps, in contrasting colours for accessible routes.
-
Balconies & walkways
Replacement or new balustrades for existing balconies, access decks and walkways.
-
Industrial & plant areas
Heavy-duty galvanised railings for platforms, plant rooms and loading areas, including ball-standard handrailing.
Infill styles and finishes
- Vertical bars
- Round, square or flat bar spindles at safe spacings. The most popular choice for homes and anywhere children may be present, as it is hard to climb.
- Mesh & perforated
- Welded mesh or perforated sheet panels set into a steel frame, for a modern look and full coverage.
- Glass
- Toughened laminated glass panels in a steel or stainless steel frame. See stainless steel & glass.
- Horizontal rails
- Industrial-style rails for workplaces and plant areas where climbing isn’t a concern.
- Finish
- Powder coated in any RAL colour, hot-dip galvanised, or galvanised and powder coated for outdoor runs.
Designed to the regulations
We design to the guarding heights in Approved Document K (from 900mm on stair flights up to 1100mm on balconies and roof edges), the loads in BS 6180, and gaps a 100mm sphere can’t pass through wherever children may be present.
Fabricated or key clamp?
For a straightforward galvanised barrier you can put up yourself, our key clamp handrail kits are quick to assemble, need no welding and are often the most economical option. Choose a fabricated balustrade when you want welded joints, spindle, mesh or glass infill, a design that follows a curve or a rake precisely, or a finish that matches the building.
How it works
From your first sketch to the finished metalwork, one team handles the design, fabrication and finishing.

Balustrade questions
Can you match an existing balustrade?
Usually, yes. Send us photos and the main dimensions (post spacing, bar size and spacing, handrail profile) and we’ll match the design and the RAL colour as closely as possible.
What colours are available?
Any RAL colour in a powder-coated finish, in gloss, satin or matt. Black, anthracite grey and white are the most popular. For outdoor use we recommend galvanising underneath the powder coat.
Can you make a balustrade for a curved staircase?
Yes. Curved and helical handrails and balustrades are made to follow the stair exactly. A site survey or accurate drawings of the stair are needed for curved work.
Do you make handrails for accessible ramps and steps?
Yes. We make continuous handrails for ramps and steps to suit Approved Document M, in colours that contrast with the surroundings, with or without a balustrade below.
How are the balustrades fixed?
Top fixed through base plates, side fixed to the edge of a stair or slab, or set into the floor or parapet, depending on the structure. We supply the fixings to suit, or install the balustrade for you.
Have drawings or measurements?
Send them over with a few details about the job and we’ll come back with a price and a lead time. A photo of a sketch with measurements is enough to get started.
