General Operations & Maintenance of Key Clamp Systems

Key Clamp Operations, Maintenance & Health and Safety Information

Our Key Clamp systems are designed to be robust, low-maintenance, and safe when installed and used correctly. Once installed, Key Clamp fittings have no specific operating instructions. However, there are important health, safety, inspection, and maintenance considerations that should be followed throughout the life of the system.

This page provides a practical overview of operations, maintenance, and health & safety guidance for Key Clamp structures, suitable for inclusion within O&M manuals, site handover packs, and compliance documentation.

Health & Safety Information

Key Clamp fittings must always be used in their correct and intended manner. While the systems themselves are simple and reliable, responsibility for safe operation and ongoing maintenance rests with the customer or system owner.

When undertaking routine inspections or maintenance, the required Health & Safety procedures for the materials and products being used must be observed.

Customer responsibilities

  • Ensure correct use and operation of the system at all times
  • Ensure personnel are adequately trained where required
  • Carry out routine checks and inspections
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records

Key Clamp Store cannot accept responsibility for any damage or injury to persons or property as a result of not using the product in the proper, correct and intended manner.

If you have any concerns relating to product quality or potential failure, Key Clamp Store should be contacted in the first instance.

Maintenance & Repair Guidance

Regular inspection helps ensure long-term safety and performance. Maintenance checks should be carried out periodically and checked against an original drawing or plan where available.

Routine inspection checklist

  • Ensure the system is in good physical condition
  • Ensure the system has not been modified, added to, or tampered with
  • Ensure grub screws on the fittings are present, greased (where necessary) and torqued (tightened) as required
  • Ensure fixings to walls, floors and other surfaces are present and tightened as required
  • Ensure all components are in good shape, paying attention to the finish (see below)

Finish Condition & Corrosion Checks

Galvanised finishes

  • Galvanised coatings and finishes should be free from rust
  • The finish should be intact and not flaking

If the galvanised finish is slightly damaged or showing signs of rust, remove oxidised material using a wire brush (or similar), then apply a protective paint or coating to prevent further damage.

Powder-coated finishes

  • Powder-coated items should be intact and not flaking
  • No exposed steel or signs of corrosion should be present

If a powder-coated finish is slightly damaged or showing signs of degradation, remove loose material and apply a suitable protective repair spray to restore the coating.

Severe damage: If any damage is severe, we recommend replacing the component and noting this on the maintenance record.

Important Notes for O&M Documentation
